Gene Makowsky (born April 17, 1973 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is an offensive lineman for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League and a politician. He was selected in the second round of the 1995 CFL Draft from the University of Saskatchewan. Makowsky helped the U of S Huskies to two Hardy Cup Championships in his four year tenure at the University, as well as being named to the Canada West All Star team in 1994. Makowsky has played in 266 games in his 15 years as a Roughrider, second most in franchise history, earning the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in 2004 and 2005. He attended Walter Murray Collegiate, a high school in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On August 5, 2011, Makowsky made history after playing in his 272nd game for the most games played as a Saskatchewan Roughrider all-time, surpassing Roger Aldag's mark of 271 games played.[1]

After the Saskatchewan Roughriders defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2007 Grey Cup Final, Gene Makowsky was presented the Grey Cup by Commissioner Mark Cohon.

Makowsky, along with his then teammate Matt Dominguez, made a cameo appearance in the Corner Gas episode "Reader Pride".

Political career

Makowsky was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 2011 provincial election. He represents the Saskatchewan Party in the constituency of Regina Dewdney.[2]
